Sleep

Usually, I am one of those people who never has any issues with sleep. I love sleep. But every once in awhile, I have periods where I have the hardest time falling asleep. I must be in one now because the past few nights I have been unable to fall asleep until late and then I sleep terribly. Even right now, it is past 12:30 and Joe is happily snoring away beside me.

What do you do when you can't sleep? Count sheep? Warm milk? A hot shower? Read? Sometimes those work for me, but lately it seems like nothing is helping. Any suggestions?

I hate that Megs. It is a terrible feeling. I get up and move to a new location, watch a bit of TV, then try again. The good part is that all the best TV is on at this time- Late Night! I always had my best jokes to share at school when I had insomnia the night before!

i'm the queen of this problem. this might sound crazy, but here's my routine: warm bath or shower, warm cup of decaf green tea, stick of celery and off to bed i go. celery has some amazing calming benefits and gives me the best sleeps!

I am just the same, normally I have no problems falling asleep but every now and then I have a night where I am just lying awake!
Usually I just end up reading until my eyes fall shut :)

Not much help here... I'm an insomnia sufferer from waaaayyy back. I tend to survive on around 5 hrs a night, but I feel amazing if I get 7! Sometimes it's only 3 or 4.

I don't go to bed until late (usually after midnight, sometimes 1.30), and then it sometimes takes me ages to get to sleep. I'm a night owl though, and no matter how I've tried, going to bed earlier (even if I'm exhausted) doesn't work.

The best thing for me is to get up, have a bit of a wander around, maybe read a boring book for a bit, and hop back into bed.

Lots of magnesium also helps (the sleep mineral!). If I'm low on that, my sleeping suffers more than usual.

My problem is probably my mindset... I begrudge sleep. I don't want to do it because I have too many things I want to do! Too many things to think about, read, watch, draw, create, ponder... if I never needed sleep life would be great!

I think meditation would be a HUGE help, but I'm useless at it. (Probably a good indication it WOULD be a good help if I made myself practise it!).

Hope you get past your sleep glitch soon. :)

reading usually does it for me.. but there are certain yoga moves you can do that will help.

It's awful when that happens! I've been going through it lately and usually just lie there until I finally all asleep. Sometimes I read poetry if the insomnia's especially bad...good luck!

Thanks everyone for all your comments and suggestions! I am going to try them :)

I am so not a night owl - I am known for being in bed by at least 11. Joe is always like, "what are you doing still awake? It's past double digits!" So when I can't sleep, I just feel so gross. I need at least 7 hours.

i have been having the same problem! when i can't fall asleep, i try to relax, and clear my mind of all thoughts. if that doesn't work, i use my ipod to go on facebook until i get tired. sometimes, when you can't sleep, you just can't sleep...so might as well take advantage of the night! :)
