My Saturday

On my way to Market Collective I spotted some more yarn bombing!

And a bit more further down the street (sorry about the bad quality - I took the photos with my phone)

Market Collective!

Teira and I at Market Collective! They always have an awesome photo room and the theme this time was Chess in a Hay Field. Love it!

Have a happy Halloween weekend!

The weekend has arrived! I have had a very busy Friday. I left my home at 6:30 am for work, went to the gym, grabbed dinner, went home and ate with Joe, then left again to go the Calgary Stampeders football game (which was freeeeeezing, but so fun and we won 55 - 24). Now it is midnight and I am home. So very tired.

Tomorrow I am going to Market Collective in the morning, carving a pumpkin in the afternoon (I'll be sure to post pictures), and then babysitting tomorrow evening for some friends.

Sunday I am getting my hair cut, and passing out candy for Halloween! Last year I didn't have any kids come to my door (we live on a weird street) but some kids moved into the neighbourhood so I am hoping they come by! I bought full sized chocolate bars to hand out.

What are you doing this weekend? Do you celebrate Halloween?

Write a Bike

Teira sent me a link to these and I am in love. These personalized bikes by Juri Zaech are wonderful!

Travel

I love to travel (except the flying part - I hate flying) and have been lucky enough to go to a few places (not nearly as many as I would like!). In December, I will be flying to Pittsburgh for Christmas. Then in May, I will be going to Las Vegas for not one, but two weddings! There is one on Friday and one on Sunday. Two friends who don't even know each other but obviously have great timing. Then this summer, we will hopefully make it back to Europe. That is still up in the air but I am really hoping we get to go! Both Joe and I have been there, but not together so it will be nice to visit more amazing cities with him.

Here are a few cute travel accessories:

I have a very hard time sleeping on airplanes. Even if it is a red eye, I just can't do it. Even though I can't sleep, I try really hard to relax so I really like using an eye mask. I can shut everyone out and pretend I am not in a stuffy airplane.

Can't travel without a camera to capture the moments - and therefore a cute camera case!

Packing light is not my strong suit, but I am getting better. I really like multiple use products when I travel. Lush solid shampoos are super light and easy to pack - plus Godiva (the one pictured) is a 2 in 1. Usually I don't like using a 2 in 1 but this one is nice! Argan oil is another, I use it as a facial moisturizer, and to keep my hair smooth, silky, and soft. And Nars has this fabulous makeup stick (called the Multiple) that can be used on eyes, cheeks, lips, and your body. Better than packing a bag full of products!

A journal to track your adventures. I love this one with the bike!

And finally, a shawl or a scarf. Airplanes are always so cold! Even when I travel to warm destinations, I always dress warm. Makes me feel more comfortable and cozy. A soft sweater is nice too.

Do you have any trips coming up? What do you bring with you?

I make her say...

I like it!

Yarn bombing

I never really paid much attention to graffiti until a few weeks ago when Joe told me about Banksy. Since then, I started paying a little more attention to graffiti that I saw around the city. This is one I noticed a few weeks ago along 17th Avenue on my way to hot yoga:

I decided to look it up and it is called yarn bombing or graffiti knitting - and is a type of street art. Joe says he sees it a lot in the Kensington area of the city and I will be there next weekend for Market Collective so am going to take a bit of a walk around to try to find some more.

Have you ever seen yarn bombs in your city?

Saturday evening

Relaxing with Joe and the sun is going down. An almost winter view from our couch out the front window.

Have a fabulous weekend!

The weekend is almost here! Actually, it has started early for me. I took the day off because I have a wedding to go to today! Our friends, Edwin and Chad (Edwin is on the very left and Chad is beside him) are getting married today and I am so happy for them.

Saturday will be a quiet day of bumming around with Joe and on Sunday I am going for lunch with Jen and Teira. So it should be a very nice next few days.

What are your plans?

Ugg and Jimmy Choo

I am not going to lie, I have a few pairs of Ugg boots and I love them (it seems you either love them or you don't). They keep my toes very warm in the cold Canadian winters. However, in my lovely country, a plain pair of the classic short boots is over $200 and I would never pay that price for them. For some reason, they are much cheaper in the USA and I buy them there.

Anyways, Ugg and Jimmy Choo have collaborated and created a few limited edition styles. What do you think of them? I am not a fan (was going to say I hate them, but maybe that is a bit strong...maybe not. I don't like them at all). The first pair is almost $800 and it just looks like someone went and bedazzled a pair. I love Ugg and I love Jimmy Choo but I think they are much better on their own.

Would you ever wear them?

I'm an Englishman in New York

Not really, but I love Sting. A lot. He is one of my favourites (in this song, I especially like around the 2:14 mark). Who are your favourite artists? Any music recommendations?

Pretty

I know I just wrote about comfy TOMS shoes, but these look comfy too, right? They remind me of a peacock.

TOMS Shoes

Really love TOMS Shoes! They look so comfy and simple - definitely my style. Plus, with every pair purchased, the company gives a pair to a child in need - The One For One Movement.

Perfect start to the weekend

Have a great weekend!

(photo from Travel Alberta)

The weekend is here! Well, almost. I am a little ahead of myself since it is only Thursday evening. Although it was a short work week, it sure didn't feel that way. This week was stressful and busy!

What do you have planned for the weekend? Tomorrow (meaning Friday), I am only working until noon because I am going with my niece and nephew to see The Wiggles! They are the biggest groupies - it is so cute. On Saturday, I am going for a late morning coffee with Teira (yay!) and Sunday is a Land's End Chamber Ensemble concert (I am on the board for them - and it is our first concert of the season!). Not much downtime - but it will still be nice.

Hope you all have a great Friday and a fantastic weekend!

PS - The picture is aurora borealis in northern Alberta. Beautiful!

Hôtel de Glace

I would love to spend a night at Hôtel de Glace, an ice hotel near Sainte-Catherine-de-la-Jacques-Cartier, Quebec. Every single year, the hotel is totally rebuilt and redesigned and is open between January and March. They use 15,000 tons of snow and 500,000 tons of ice! Doesn't it look so amazing and romantic? Joe hates winter, so I doubt I could ever convince him to go with me.

There is nothing like...

Clean sheets. One of my favourite things.

Paragliding

Learning...

Kelli made it down!

The wind is incredibly strong! It knocked me over here.

Kelli with her gear.

Me getting my harness on.

Paragliding was always something that piqued my interest. So after years of thinking about how I should try it one day, I called up my sister Kelli and asked her to take a course with me. She said yes and we learned how to paraglide! It was so much fun! We had an inside class for a few hours and then 2 days on the (small) hill. It was just the basics and we got our beginner certifications. We always said we would continue on (we took that class 2 years ago!) - but then she got pregnant, I slipped 2 discs in my back, and now she is pregnant again! One day, I know we will do it again, she just needs to stop having kids (jokes!). I wouldn't have wanted to do it with anyone else but her and now it is something we share.

Have you ever done something you always wanted? Would you ever want to learn to paraglide (I promise it is fun!)

I really like these rings - you can wear them separately or stack them.
